She deejayed for two decades on Southwest Florida radio stations. Now DJ Pat Pat has left the airwaves to spin something new: Tasty coffee and retro vibes.

Patty Amandis just opened Disco Bean Coffee Company in Bonita Springs.

The new spot combines two of Amandis’ biggest loves, coffee and vinyl — all in a colorful café filled with disco balls, vinyl records, comfy lounge chairs and a wall of old-school sound equipment that's the backdrop to weekend deejay sessions.

“I wanted a retro feel,” says Amandis, aka DJ Pat Pat, about the shop and its name.

“I wanted something old school. I wanted something from the ‘70s and ‘80s. I wanted something that stood out as music.'

Naples' DJ Pat Pat goes from FM radio personality to Bonita Springs coffee shop owner

The Naples resident left the radio business in April 2025 after 20 years as an on-air personality at various local FM stations, including 105.5 The Beat, Latino 97.7 and (most recently) Fly 98.5. She still spins records as a for-hire deejay at weddings and private parties.

“The radio business, you know, it doesn't pay my bills, to be honest with you…” Amandis says. “I just wanted to focus on this new venture.”

Then, in May 2025, her family had to close their longtime East Naples café, La Sorpresa Latina Cuban Café, after three decades in business. Amandis worked there in addition to her radio gigs.

“I started at 14 years old working in my parents' restaurant…” Amandis says. “A new landlord bought the whole building (in May) and basically pushed us out. I wasn't able to sell my business, re-sign my lease.”

“My Cuban coffee stems from my roots and what I used to also sell at my Cuban café,” says Amandis, who is Cuban- American. “So we do have that Bustelo Cuban coffee.”

The shop's coffee drinks have retroinspired names like Boogie Brew, Disco Dancer and Funk Adelic Fuel. Visitors can also munch on food provided by various area businesses (Disco Bean doesn’t have a full kitchen). That includes grab-and-go sandwiches from Naples’ Black Letter Coffee + Café, donuts from Bonita Springs’ Trackside Donuts, beef jerky from Fort Myers’ Badass Jerky and high-protein desserts from Southwest Florida chain Greenbites Cookies.

Then there’s the music: Framed records on the walls, retro tunes on the cafe sound system and bins filled with used and new vinyl records from old-school artists such as Lynyrd Skynyrd and Earth Wind & Fire and more modern acts such as Lil Wayne and Cardi B.

The vinyl has been a big hit, Amandis says. “Man, the records are moving. There's days that I'm selling more records than coffee.”

The soul of the place, undoubtedly, will be the deejay booth set up in front of that backdrop of stacked cabinet speakers, boom boxes, tape decks and other sound equipment.

That’s where deejays will spin vinyl records starting at 9 p.m. every Friday and Saturday.

“When I decided to do this, I was like, man, I want a place where vinyl DJs can come and spin,”Amandis says. “And you have to know how to play vinyl in order to spin at my spot on a Friday or Saturday night… “We're doing open format. We're doing disco. We're doing soul. We're doing funk, R&B, throwbacks.”

Amandis has been a working deejay for 27 years, she says. She still spins at weddings, private parties and corporate events, with occasional guest spots at local venues such as The Perry Hotel Naples and Mercato cigar lounge BURN.

“I started young as a kid,” she says. “I was 16 years old. I've been in Naples my whole life.”

Now people can come to Disco Bean, chill out in the café’s brightly colored lounge chairs and enjoy those retro vibes.

“I've hand-picked all my furniture, and it's all just funky, bright colors,” she says. 'I just want people to feel like they're coming into my retro living room and they're just hanging out.

“That's the vibe that we're kind of creating, and that's the vibe that people are feeling.”
